![]() ![]() ![]() Her Emily is multifaceted: a loner, a dreamer, a dissident, a cauldron of imagination, and also just a daughter who misses her dead mother. "I don't think you have to intellectualise her feelings or reactions – she is always instinctive." "Emily is sometimes very still, but often wrestling with the elements, the landscape, and she feels and responds to things viscerally," Mackey says. The actress, who rose to fame as Maeve in the Netflix hit Sex Education, brings great physicality to Emily – O’Connor says she cast Mackey because she has "something animal" about her that contrasts powerfully with the atmosphere of conservative restraint around her. ![]() ![]() ![]() ( The Sidekicksand The First Third are both must-reads for any Australian YA fans). Will Kostakis aces speculative fiction, just as he does with contemporary. (Will, please name my cat!) But, back to the plot – if you knew that something really good was going to end really badly, would you still go through with it? That is the question Adam faces. I loved this story, but my absolute favourite thing is that the cat is called Lara Bengal. ![]() What a fabulous little story about identity, and especially about that tricky moment between high school and university where there are endless opportunities, but you only get to pick one… (Just for the record, I love Amie’s visions of space habitats she writes space very, very well – see Illuminae.) But who does Zaida actually want to be? If there were no outside influences, what would she choose to do with her life? A scary incident brings these questions to the surface. Her parents want her to study medicine back on the home planet. Earth loves her her public status has opened many doors. The main character in this short story, Zaida, is the first child born on Mars. I think that a few lines on each story might be the best way to review this book, so see below… I loved each and every one of these short stories, all from authors I am familiar with except for Danielle Binks herself, Melissa Keil, and Ellie Marney. The Jedi version of equilibrium is actually the eradication of the Dark Side. But even with a respected High Council and countless Knights acting as Galaxy Police, the prospect of just a single Sith/Apprentice combo existing at any given time – “Always two there are” – is far too much to bear. It’s portrayed as the Jedi’s key, long-term goal, and the ideal state for all of existence. Yet, let's look at Anakin's shift in polarity slightly differently: that the Chosen One is warped by the biases and failings of factions who don’t really want balance at all. The prophecy was a lie! Or was it? Who knows? It all gets a bit confusing, and the remaining Jedi just run from the issue for a couple of decades. It all falls apart, of course – from the Jedi perspective at least – when he is tempted by the Dark Side. Enter Anakin, prophesised as the Chosen One who will bring that balance. ![]() ![]() ![]() They met in 1944, when Margaret was 14 and he was a married 29-year-old.
